- Read the CC&Rs. CC&Rs are documents that cover the obligations of the homeowners to their association. Make sure to read the up-to-date version of the CC&Rs of your HOA. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask a board member so they can clarify your concerns.
- Get preapproval. Submit the required documents pertaining to your siding replacement to the board before starting the construction. The board members may approve your home improvement proposal as it is or with conditions in place.
- Acquire permits. In addition to asking for preapproval from the board, you need to obtain necessary permits from the local building department to ensure that your project is up to standard and code.
Siding Replacement Don’ts
- Do not rely on someone else to understand the HOA requirements. Even if your contractor reads your CC&Rs, it is still your responsibility as the homeowner to review the relevant documents and make sure your project is compliant with the regulations.
- Do not forget to inform your HOA about the completion of the project. Once the siding replacement is completed, notify the HOA board to clear any recorded liens that may have been put on your home.
